Introducing treatment methods in physical medicine and rehabilitation

Medicine

Based on the physical examination and history, the type of your disease will be diagnosed and the physician will decide which medicine and how much should be prescribed for your problem according to your conditions. Be sure to take all the prescribed medicine and complete the course of treatment, unless the doctor says that you can stop taking it earlier.

Injection

Injection is an ideal treatment for many musculoskeletal diseases, usually one or maximum 3 sessions are required for injection. According to your disease, the type of substance that the doctor injects will be different. The types of injections in terms of injection site are: intra-articular, peri-articular, peri-tendon, intra-tendon, soft tissue, intramuscular injection, etc. Based on the technique and type of injected substance, the types of injections are: ozone therapy, prolotherapy, PRP injection, hyaluronic acid gel injection and mesotherapy. Musculoskeletal injections can be performed with or without anesthesia. Based on the technique and type of injected substance, they may be painless or with low to moderate pain. Possible side effects of this treatment method consisted of: pain, hematoma and bruising at the injection site, which usually resolves within a few hours or days, bleeding at the injection site and infection at the injection site (the chance of infection is very low if the sterility principles are followed).

Laser therapy

Laser therapy is an almost uncomplicated method, using a special spectrum of light rays, which is used in all kinds of musculoskeletal disorders, including: sports injuries, joint pain, arthritis, pain and damage to muscles and tendons, back and neck discopathy, various types of pain, swelling, spinal canal stenosis, neuropathy and wound healing.

This method is painless. Usually, the sessions are done in multiple, alternating and short intervals (5 to 10 sessions, every other day).

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a method in which small and thin needles are inserted in certain areas of the body to treat various disorders, especially pain, numbness, tingling and weakness. This method is almost without complications, there is only a possibility of a little pain, bruising or a little bleeding at the places where the needles are inserted. This method is performed usually every other day with total of about 10 sessions.

Manipulation

Manipulation is a type of manual therapy in which the physician performs a special maneuver on a part of the body (back, neck, hand, leg, jaw…) which will ultimately lead to a reduction in pain and an increase in the patient’s performance. Manipulation, if not performed by a skilled person, may cause complications such as damage to bones, ligaments, broken vertebrae, damage to the spinal cord or blood vessels. This treatment usually takes between one and three sessions.

Biofeedback therapy

Biofeedback is a method that is usually used to improve muscle strength, function, sometimes reduce muscle shortness and contractions, help in the treatment of paralysis due to various reasons (such as stroke, spinal cord injury, concussion), urinary incontinence, constipation, sexual dysfunction, organ prolapse and so on.

In this method patient, he receives visual and audio feedback from the device, and in this way, his neuromuscular activity improves and becomes more optimal. Biofeedback treatment is completely painless and multiple sessions and sometimes several courses of treatment are needed.

Kinesio Taping

This method of treatment is used to reduce pain and heal muscle and tendon injuries and strains and correct skeletal forms. Kinesiology tapes are cut into specific shapes and sizes by the physician and designed and pasted according to the patient’s problem.

In most cases, it is necessary to use this tape for 3-4 weeks, but because they usually come off sooner due to physical activity, sweating, bathing, changing clothes, etc., it is generally necessary to reframe and glue them 3 times by a physician.

If this method of treatment is not performed in the right way and by a skilled person, in some cases it will aggravate the patient’s pain or problem.
